Latex Collection Cone with Vent

Latex Collection Cone with Vent is a reusable latex collection cone. It is recommended to connect the cone to a 15ml vial or lined with a disposable end cone (canine collection sheath). The Latex Collection Sheath is also referred to as an artificial canine vagina, because it has a firm, but elastic natural feel.

  • If connecting to a vial or using with a liner, the end needs to be cut

Latex care:

• • Latex is sensitive to light and heat, as well as harsh chemicals
  • Clean it using warm soapy water, and rinse with cool water
  • For storage, lightly dust it with cornflour and wrap it in paper and place in a plastic container, and store it away from light and heat. In a hot climate, this can be the fridge.
  • Latex is toxic to semen, so we recommend using it with a vial or liner

Semen Collection:

Collecting semen from dogs is not difficult, but like many things, is much easier after you’ve done it a time or two. The basic process is conducted in the following series of steps:

1. Grasp the prepuce and pull/push it back to expose the tip of the penis
2. Slide the collection cone over the protruding penis and slide it over the penis, pushing the prepuce back over of the bulbis glandis
3. Lock your fingers in a ring around the penis, essentially holding the bulbis glandis inside your fist
4. Apply pressure with forward and backward movement; in most cases, the male will begin to thrust back and forth
5. Watch for semen to flow in the collection tube. Most dogs stop thrusting as they begin to ejaculate
6. Continue to apply pressure until you observe a crystal clear fluid (prostatic fluid) begin to flow into the collection tube; at that time you can gently slide the collection cone off the penis
