Umbilical Cord Care
Umbilical Cord Care covers the products you need to manage good hygiene effectively. Whereas many prefer to let the bitch handle the umbilical cord, it is medically advisable for the breeder to do this. Furthermore, we recommend leaving the placenta attached and delaying cord clamping for 2-5 minutes (45sec for caesareans). This is because the puppy subsequently gains blood volume (up to 30%!) and blood cells. Optimise this transfusion by elevating and holding the placenta above the puppy’s level because gravity is your friend. Distract the bitch, and try to make her focus on cleaning and stimulating the puppy.
